Types of aerobic exercises

There are special fitness programs for women, as, compared to men, women have very different body structure and fitness concerns. For example, we tend to store more body fat than men do and therefore require different technique to get rid of that extra fat.

The two type of aerobic exercises are: Weight-bearing – such as walking jogging or skipping, this sort of exercise is where muscles will work against the force of gravity. The other is Non-weight-bearing – gravity is non existent in this type of exercise, these are exercises such as swimming or riding a bike. Strength training exercises are used mainly to increase the tone, power and efficiency of the muscles by toning isolated muscles against resistance.

The second recommendation is from the American College of Sports Medicine. The ACSM recommends 20-60 minutes of continuous aerobic exercise (biking, walking, jogging, dancing, swimming, etc.), three to five times a week, at 60%-90% of maximum heart rate, and two to three days of resistance training. This is a more formal, “workout” recommendation, although you can also accumulate the more intense workout in bouts of 10-15 minutes throughout the day if you like.

Don’t neglect that old standby, walking. It’s one of the best ways to exercise, and your only expense is a pair of supportive shoes. Walking is easy on your joints, it lifts your mood, and it benefits your heart, lungs, and waistline if you keep up a brisk pace. Walk to work if possible, or if you have a desk job, take a brisk walk on one of your breaks and refresh body and mind for the rest of your workday.

Aerobic cross-training is effective for weight loss because your are toning and training the fat-burning systems of more of your muscles. It turns more of your muscles into 24-hour fat-burning machines! You are also more likely to exercise on a regular basis and for longer periods of time. this also promotes weight loss and fitness.

Now, there are far too many fitness programs for women, and choosing a best one is not always easy. If you feel you need an opinion, you can simply check out the online forums, ask your best girl friend, or step into a few gyms and make a comparison. Either way, the key is to find a program which can produce results for you and which you feel you can stick to in the long term.
